The New Citizens’ Association Coastal Erosion Task
Force
Working To Protect Our Homes
In
keeping with our mission statement The Citizen’s Association has
established a Coastal Protection Task Force. The Task Force’s role is
to advise the Board of Directors on all matters relating to the
coastal protection of the Island of Palm Beach, with emphasis on
Reaches 7 and 8, extending from Sloan’s Curve to the southern boundary
of The Town of Palm Beach. Coastal protection issues would include
actions that are necessary to provide storm protection for upland
structures such as beach renourishment and dune restoration.
As part of this function the Task
Force will monitor the efforts of the Shore Protection Board, The Town
Council and the various regulatory bodies, and advise the Citizen’s
Association Board concerning actions they should take, particularly
with respect to issues involving coastal protection for Reaches 7 and
8. To assist in fulfilling its responsibilities the Task Force will
develop recommendations for engaging the services of a coastal
engineering firm to offer advice and counsel on all matters relating
to the protection of our homes from the Atlantic Ocean, including any
proposed projects that will impact the beaches and/or dunes. The Task
Force also will develop recommendations for covering the cost of these
services.
Residents of Reaches 7 and 8 who
wish to serve on The Coastal Protection Task Force are encouraged to
mail a copy of their resume to the Citizen’s Association office
located in the Paramount Building, Suite 28, 139 North County Road,
Palm Beach, Florida 33480.
This is an important issue facing
all of us who live south of Sloan’s Curve and we look forward to
working with you to protect our homes and the beautiful barrier island
on which we live.
